MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- After the Black Friday buzz comes Small Business Saturday. The day isn't just about scoring deals, but is focused on supporting hometown entrepreneurs.
Shop small, shop local. That's the message on this Small Business Saturday.
Area entrepreneurs shared with CBS 58 the importance of the day, sharing that it kicks off the holiday shopping season for them and is a chance to connect with new customers. According to Bankrate, about 60% of shoppers this holiday are expected to support Small Business Saturday.
Many hometown businesses appreciate that support. Along with supporting local entrepreneurs, Small Business Saturday also encourages new ones.
Nesha Beaumon, owner of Pound 4 Pound Cakes by Nesha says small businesses are all about being unique.
"What are you going to do differently in order to bring people to your product?" she said. Nationwide, there are more than 30 million small businesses.
As they work to compete with big box retailers, research shows that more than 40% of local business owners are depending on holiday season sales to get through the year.
