Sun Country Airlines begins non-stop flights out of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Get ready for take off! Sun Country Airlines landed in Milwaukee Thursday, Aug. 26, and will started making nonstop flights to Las Vegas and Minneapolis.

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) held a celebration for the airline's first flight out of Milwaukee.

It's no small task encouraging airlines to set up shop at an airport, especially during the pandemic.

"We've worked continuously to try to attract new airlines here and I think the COVID situation has changed some things, changed some dynamics within the way airlines are serving cities. And we're certainly benefitting from some of those changes with the additions we have," said Brian Dranzik, director for Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.

Sun Country will offer flights to southwest Florida, Phoenix, and Cancun, Mexico starting in December.
