MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new study in the Public Library of Science shows e-cigarette use can lead to a higher risk of getting the flu.
That's as the CDC is warning Americans about the dangers of vaping.
The chemicals inside those vapors can irritate the lungs, making them more susceptible to infection.
One local doctor says he now has to ask his patients if they vape.
"Instead of me investigating all other avenues, I may then take a step back and look at it from a different perspective, said Pulmonary Specialist Dr. Andrew Zane.
There are other smart ways to avoid the flu this season.
Doctors say you shouldn't share pens. They also recommend washing your hands after pumping your gas, and they recommend getting the flu vaccine.
