Steady, heavy rain arrives Friday and lasts through Saturday

Until the severe storms arrived on Monday, it was a very, very dry July. Going into the severe weather and heavy rain we were on track to be the driest July on record. Then we picked up a record daily rainfall of 1.75" which pushed our July rain total to 1.91". Despite that soaking rain we are still over an inch below-average on rain for the month of July. By the end of Friday, the last day of July, average rain for the month is at 3.40" so we will need almost exactly 1.50" of rain before midnight to get to average.

Going into Friday the moderate drought has expanded across southeast Wisconsin. The biggest area of moderate drought is along the I-94 corridor and north of there to Sheboygan. But the steady rain Friday into Saturday could be a drought buster. 

If you have some errands to run or outdoor plans Friday, the morning will be the best time to get outside. By the midday hours we might start to see some showers return and then by late afternoon the steady rain arrives. Once that steady rain arrives it may last 12-18 hours in any given location through the late morning hours of Saturday. By Saturday afternoon and evening some scattered showers could linger. 

Rainfall totals will definitely add up with this system with many areas seeing at least one inch of rain and some could get as much as three inches. Thankfully the flood threat is fairly low as most of this rain falls over a 24-30 hour period and the ground is still fairly dry.
