Now that we are over a month into the year 2026, we are getting a look at some of the official numbers on temperatures last year. Shortly after the start of the new year we told you that Milwaukee had an average temperature of 48.5 degrees for the year that went down as the 30th warmest on record.
For the state of Wisconsin it was the 19th warmest year on record in 2025 with an average temperature of 44.6 degrees. The coldest temperature in Wisconsin was in Knight, WI which is way up north with an air temperature that dropped to -38 on January 20, 2025.
As you widen the view from the state to the nation and to the world, the rankings continue to get warmer and warmer. The United States as a whole ranked as the fourth warmest on record with an average temp of 54.6 which was over two and a half degrees above average. And the world ranked as the third warmest on record.
Even though it wasn't the warmest year on record on a local, state, nation or global scale, it's important to note that only 2023 and 2024 were warmer on the global view. Milwaukee also saw it's warmest years on record in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024.
