'Stairway To Heroin' Resource Fair To Help Families At West Allis Central HS

A resource fair at West Allis Central High School will offer access to medical professionals and counselors in an effort to fight the growing heroin epidemic.

"It's a problem city wide," said school principal Amy Van Deuren.

The program, Stairway to Heroin, will host speakers like the West Allis Fire Department paramedics, Bodo Gajevic, Special Agent from the WI Heroin Initiative Task Force.

"[Heroin] is a problem throughout southeastern Wisconsin," said Van Deuren.

She's right. Heroin cases have gone up in almost every Wisconsin county every year for the last three years, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

"It's much bigger than just here at our building," said Van Deuren. "That's why we've opened this up to our building and that's why we've opened it up to our community, to make it bigger than us."

'Stairway To Heroin' starts at 5:45 p.m. and a  speaking portion of the program will start at 6:30. It is free and open to the public. Register here.
