Special Look: Foxconn construction well underway

RACINE COUNTY (CBS 58) – Construction at the Foxconn site is well underway.

On Thursday, construction leaders gave CBS 58 a special look at the progress.

“We’re moving at a rapid pace,” Gilbane Building Co. Senior Vice President Adam Jelen said.

In August, workers broke ground on a 120,000 sq. ft. multipurpose building. Now, it’s almost complete.

“We’re putting the roof on the building, we’re doing mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations.”

The building is expected to be finished next month.

Around 400 workers are also getting the site ready for a LCD manufacturing plant.

Every day, around 150 trucks haul building material, but leaders say it’s not only the work they’re proud of.

“It’s really about making a difference in the community,” Jelen said. “We’ve had over 450 Wisconsin residents on the job, over 90 percent of the contracts are from Wisconsin.”

Jelen says the project is on track. Construction on the LCD manufacturing plant is expected to begin next year.
