MPD officer charged with attempted misconduct in office resigns, makes first court appearance
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department says Josue Ayala has resigned from his position after being charged with attempted misconduct in public office.
Court documents allege Ayala used Flock cameras to run the license plates of two people nearly 200 times in a three-month span.
Detectives say Ayala was in a relationship with one of the victims. The other person was allegedly their ex.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman says the department is ramping up how they do internal audits to prevent this from happening again.
"We're still looking over how we can do more, make sure we can temper or lessen the ability of this misuse to happen again," Chief Norman said.
Ayala made his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon and pleaded not guilty.
He refused to take questions from reporters who addressed him in the hallway afterwards.
The court ordered no contact between Ayala and the two people he's accused of using Flock technology to track, and a signature bond was set at $2,500.
He'll need to report to the Milwaukee County Jail for booking by March 9.
Ayala is expected back in court April 17 for a pre-trial conference.
