Six Injured after Five Vehicle Accident in Madison Including Two Semis

Around 4:41 AM on Saturday, October 22 a semi truck traveling southbound on I-390/90 through Madison struck several vehicles slowed in traffic due to bridge construction. The semi then traveled though the median and struck the trailer of a double-bottom semi traveling northbound, causing a trailer of the double-bottom to separate and overturn in the right lane of I-39/90 northbound.

The semi crossed all lanes of northbound I-39/90 and came to rest in the right ditch. Several occupants of the vehicles struck by the semi were transported to Madison area hospitals with various injuries.

The driver of the semi that failed to stop is a 33-year-old man from Addison, IL. The driver was not injured and alcohol use is not suspected.

The driver of the double-bottom semi is a 62-year-old man from Waupun who was not injured.

Six passengers from three passenger cars were injured during the crash. A 39-year-old woman with non-life threatening injuries and a 40-year-old man with life threatening injuries both from Eau Claire were transported to UW Hospital.

Four other passengers from two cars were also injured all with non-life threatening injuries. 

I-39/90 southbound was closed for three hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
