GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An 83-year-old sister died at Our Lady of the Angels convent in Greenfield, and according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, postmortem testing revealed she tested positive for COVID-19.
Sister Marie Skender lost her battle with COVID-19 on April 7. She was a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis for 67 years. The Milwaukee native had been a resident of Our Lady of the Angels convent since 2016.
The other three sisters, who also tested positive for COVID-19, are recovering.
Our Lady of the Angels officials say they have been working with several government health agencies for months to protect the sisters and staff from COVID-19.
"We are working closely with the leadership of the School Sisters of St. Francis and the School Sisters of Notre Dame to keep them informed," said Our Lady of the Angels Administrator, Jane Morgan, said in a statement.
A private funeral is scheduled for April 16. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph Chapel in Milwaukee where fellow sisters, family and friends can attend after the danger of COVID-19 has passed.
