Shorthanded Badgers overcome Illinois

Champaign, IL -

Wisconsin lost Joel Stave to a head injury in the first quarter, but still overcome a road test at Illinois with a 24-13 win.

Stave was slammed to the grass early in the first quarter, and continued playing before realizing something was wrong. He left for the locker room at the end of the first quarter and did not return. Bart Houston came on and threw a touchdown pass to Robert Wheelwright to put the Badgers ahead 7-3. They would never relinquish the lead.

Houston went 22-of-33 and threw two touchdown passes, the other to Alex Erickson, the Badgers leading rusher and receiver in the game. Wisconsin goes to 6-2 with the win. Corey Clement still has not returned from the injury that's kept him out of several UW games this fall.
