Shooting Happens Near UW-Stevens Point Campus

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) — Stevens Point police say a shooting that happened blocks from the University of Wisconsin campus was the result of an altercation over a suspected drug deal.

Police Chief Mike Skibba said in a statement Friday the 21-year-old Stevens Point man who was shot is hospitalized in critical condition. The shooting happened Thursday about 8 p.m.

Authorities say the man was found at the university's Berg Gym with substantial injuries. He was taken to Ministry St. Michael's Hospital and later to a trauma center.
