Sheboygan structure fire injures 2, including firefighter

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A structure fire that occurred on Tuesday, May 2 near 13th St. and Maryland in Sheboygan resulted in significant damage to the home, leaving it uninhabitable.

According to officials, the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the fire at around 11:38 p.m., with a person trapped on the roof.

Responders arrived in four minutes, rescuing the trapped person and initiating what they describe as an "aggressive fire attack. It reportedly took 90 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.

Two people sustained injuries, including one of the responding firefighters. Both were treated on the scene by paramedics.

The American Red Cross was notified and assisted the tenant.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though the Sheboygan Fire Department attributed the initial fire to the "careless use of smoking materials."
