Senator Tammy Baldwin Speaks with Racine County Officials about Becoming Promise Zone

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is in southeastern Wisconsin this afternoon. This morning the senator spoke with Racine county officials about an application to become a promise zone.

Senator Baldwin met with county leaders here this morning Living Faith Lutheran Church. They spoke about the importance of becoming a promise zone city.

It's part of an initiative introduced by President Obama two years ago and funded by the US department of housing and urban development or HUD.

If approved the county would receive community grants to help with creating jobs, increase economic activity, improve education opportunities, reduced violent crime in the area, and promote health and access to healthcare.

No small city has ever been awarded this grant and senator Baldwin is hoping Racine will be the first.

And we should know if the application is approved early this summer.
