WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin demanded answers from the Trump administration Friday after it's about face on mental health funding this week.

The announcement came a few days ago. Thousands of federal grants supporting those programs were suddenly terminated.

The grants total almost $2 billion for programs that address problems like substance abuse and addiction, and the cuts caused what Sen. Baldwin calls "chaos and a sense of unease."

The cuts were reversed without explanation and Baldwin wants to know why.

"RFK Jr. and Donald Trump must answer for why they thought it was acceptable to try to leave some of our most vulnerable out in the cold," Sen. Baldwin said. "And my constituents need answers and assurances that the care they need will not once again be ripped away."

CBS News obtained a notice from one agency that said it was terminating some of its grants to better prioritize its resources. But now that the grants have been restored, there has been no official explanation from the White House.
