RACINE (CBS 58) -- Investigators are combing through evidence and tips trying to find the suspect who killed Racine Police Officer John Hetland.
Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said he’s confident authorities will find the man responsible. "Oh, we're gonna catch this guy,” he said. “I have no doubt, we're gonna catch this guy."
Monday night, the masked suspect walked into Teezers Tavern near 20th Street and Lathrop Avenue armed with a gun to rob the bar. He was caught on surveillance camera.
Hetland, who was off-duty, confronted the suspect and was shot and killed.
Sheriff Beth said authorities are working diligently to find the killer. "We're gonna come up with DNA, we're gonna come up with who this person is. I'm going to guess this person has a criminal past and as soon as we have the DNA from the crime lab, we'll have a much better idea."
They're also trying to follow-up on all leads as quickly as possible.
"From the list that I saw, we're definitely following-up on over a hundred different leads so far."
Authorities said the suspect appears to be Hispanic or Black, and likely has a deep voice, according to witnesses. He might be about six feet tall.
A 25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the suspect's arrest.
