School Bus Driver Transports 10-year-Old While Under Influence

A Wisconsin school bus driver was arrested for driving under the influence while transporting a 10-year-old on Wednesday.

Shortly after 7:00AM this morning, 3 different concerned citizens contacted the Dane County Communication Center by calling 911 after seeing a Badger Bus school bus operating erratically in the City and Township of Verona.

According to Dane County Sheriff’s Office, the callers reported the bus driver traveling at high speeds, weaving all over the road, running yellow traffic lights, and crossing the centerline, nearly striking an oncoming vehicle.

Deputies were able to initiate contact with the driver of the school bus on Shady Oak Lane just north of CTH PD in the Township of Verona.  The driver, Matthew Frings, age 25 years old and of Verona, denied any alcohol or controlled substance usage.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Frings was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance or other drug.  He was subsequently taken to Meriter Hospital where a blood draw was completed.  Frings also faces an enhanced charge as there was one child on the bus.  The sole occupant on the bus was a 10 year old boy who Frings had recently picked up to transport to school.  Frings was booked into the Dane County Jail on a 12-hour hold.
