Safety Jermaine Whitehead takes Rodgers' spot on active roster

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers have signed safety Jermaine Whitehead to the active roster from the practice squad. The transaction was announced Saturday by Ted Thompson.

Whitehead is a 5'11" 195-pound first-year player, originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted rookie out of Auburn in 2015. He spent most of his rookie season on the 49ers’ practice squad before being signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ active roster on December 23, 2015, and was inactive for the final two games. After being waived by Baltimore on May 13, 2016, he signed with Green Bay a few days later.

Whitehead appeared in two games for the Packers last season, seeing action on special teams. Whitehead was on the Packers’ practice squad for the rest of the 2016 regular season and postseason and for the first six games of this season. He will wear No. 35 for the Packers.
