Safe and Sound Expanding in Milwaukee

Safe and Sound is expanding in Milwaukee.

It uses a team approach with prosecutors, law enforcement and volunteer organizations to empower neighborhood.

Right now it's serving ten Milwaukee neighborhoods, but will soon venture into West Lawn and Thurston Woods.

Mayor Tom Barrett tells CBS 58 News that programs such as this are vital to reducing the city's crime rate.

"We have to have places where grandmas can feel safe sitting on their front porch watching their grandkids play," said the mayor."I want to see that in every single city. Safe and Sound has been a great partner in helping us achieve that goal."

Last year, Safe and Sound reached some 20,000 people in Police Districts 2, 3, 5 and 7.

This expansion into District 4 will cover everything north of Villard Avenue.
