Record shattering heat Monday and staying warm for Tuesday
We had record smashing heat on Monday. Widespread highs in the 80s throughout southeast Wisconsin with some areas trying to make a run at 90 degrees!
The 87-degree high in Milwaukee shatters the old record of 83 set back in 1995. It has been over 50 years since we had a high temperature this warm, this late in the year. The last time we had a high of 87 or warmer on or after October 12th was back in 1975 when we had a high of 88 degrees on October 13th. Monday also came close to the all-time October record high of 89 set on October 6, 1963.
Tuesday won't be too shabby either. Temps just after midnight Monday night were still in the upper 70s and could go down as the high for the day. Otherwise, temps hang out in the upper 60s and low 70s most of the day. It's another warm day until the temps cool down. Wednesday will see highs in the low 60s which is actually very close to average and then we get chilly with highs in the 50s on the way for the end of the week.
Unless we get back to 80 on Tuesday, there's a decent chance that Monday goes down as our last day in the 80s this year. October 12th for the date of the last day in the 80s for the year is well behind the average date for the last high in the 80s of October 1st. 70s remain a good possibility for highs until the third week of the month.
Some northern counties did end up seeing some light showers Monday evening. Tuesday evening also has that possibility and it looks a bit better with some showers possible after sunset through early Wednesday. The best chance for any showers Tuesday evening will be in our southern counties near the IL border.
