RACINE, Wis. (CBS58) -- A production of "Frozen Jr." is hitting the stage at one Racine school with the help of some new technology.

"Our production of Frozen 2020 was shut down seven weeks before we were supposed to open, and now, we're revisiting Frozen with a whole new cast," Gifford school choir teacher and Frozen Jr. director Amy Hernandez Maack said.

Hernandez Maack and her team have been working to bring Frozen to the stage for the first time in Racine. The weekend shows will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Gifford School Auditorium.

A new addition to their production is a jumbo projector, on loan to the school. The projector will provide digital backdrops that will transport the audience to the fictional town of Arendelle. Hernandez Maack says the addition adds another sensory layer for the audience to enjoy.

"As the actors are acting on stage and moving on stage, and dancing on stage, and singing on stage, and you see props coming in and props going out, there's animation that is taking place, and there are swirls of snow and mystical things appearing," she said.

The cast is made up entirely of middle schoolers who had their hands in almost all aspects of the musical.

"If there are students that want to help with makeup, if there are students that want to help build sets," hair and makeup artist Maria Graham said.

"It really is their show. We just do the behind-the-scenes and teach them, and they run with it."

Children going to see the musical are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Frozen character for the show.

You can catch the show at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors/students, and children under 5 are free. You can purchase tickets at the door.
