Racine Police warning about increase in phone scams

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Police Department is issuing a warning about an increase in phone scams.

The scams come up every year during tax season. People are getting automated calls from someone claiming to be the IRS saying they owe money and will be taken to jail if they don't pay.

Officers say the latest scam involves the scammers saying they will take enforcement action with social security numbers.

Police are reminding people to never give out personal information over the phone.
