Racine mother faces jail time for child's truancy

RACINE -- A Racine mother is facing almost a year in jail after her child missed school 58 times during the 2008-2009 school year.

32-year-old April Gentry failed to appear in court for almost five years before she was arrested on a warrant. The Racine Unified School District says they have made attempts to meet with Gentry about her child's absence from school. The district says Gentry won't cooperate with them.

If convicted on all 11 criminal charges related to her child's truancy, Gentry could be sentenced to 11 months in prison.
