RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- In the City of Racine, women who meet eligibility criteria can receive a free personalized health plan - built around their goals, their timeline, and the future they envision. YouFirst is a free program through the City of Racine Public Health Department that pairs women with dedicated public health professionals who build relationships. Whether that means focusing on personal wellness and preventing a pregnancy, preparing for a healthy pregnancy, or if they are already pregnant. Every participant receives a tailored health plan that connects them to resources including car seats, safe sleep education and resources, nutrition and fitness support, mental health services - whatever is needed. This support is for up to a year. "YouFirst is the city investing in Racine families and the future," says Cody Pearce, Community Health Director. "Healthier moms mean healthier babies, and ultimately a healthier community." Whether focused on personal wellness and not seeking to become pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or newly pregnant. The program is particularly focused on younger women, first-time moms, those who've had a previous difficult pregnancy, and those experiencing financial struggles. Of large communities in Wisconsin, the City of Racine ranks second in average annual infant mortality, behind Milwaukee and near the top for low birthweight infants and mothers who received late or no prenatal care. Disparities exist across race and ethnicity, with Black families experiencing poor birth outcomes at rates 2-4x that of White and Hispanic families. YouFirst was created to change that. Learn more or sign up at youfirstracine.com or call (262) 636-9431. The Sexual Reproductive Health Clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
