MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – As drivers in Milwaukee are trying to keep all of the construction happening around the city straight, the lines on the interstate heading eastbound on I-794 are anything but that.

According to a spokesperson with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), the markings currently in place on eastbound I-794 are temporary tape pavement markings used during construction.

Drivers have told CBS 58 some sections have started to unravel, creating piles on the road. In other sections, the lines are jagged. 

“Maybe there was a blindfold challenge somebody did while they were working one day.” said Bert Lauderdale, a driver. “I know it's hard work, those guys put in a lot of hours, it's hard work, but who is overseeing that? I mean, come on. What’s going on here?”

“This does not look like the Milwaukee I know,” said Saydey Bozmans, a driver. “It just looks messy and just not put together.” 

A WisDOT spokesperson said they are aware that some sections have begun to unravel and the department is addressing them.

Crews will be out Monday night to begin placing permanent epoxy pavement markings on I-794. Those permanent markings are supposed to be straighter, as they are applied using GPS technology.

A WisDOT spokesperson said as work continues, the department encourages motorists to remain alert in the work zone and appreciate their patience.
