Proposed ordinance would pause permit fees for Milwaukeeans repairing flood damaged homes

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A proposed ordinance could pause permit fees for Milwaukeeans repairing their homes after the August flooding.
The ordinance passed the Finance and Personnel Committee Wednesday but still needs to be passed by the full Common Council next week.
It would suspend permit fees for repairs of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems in owner-occupied homes.
“The August storms and flooding were a disaster that impacted many within our community, and this is one small way in which we can support residents who are continuing to rebuild in the wake of all the damage they suffered,” said Alderman Westmoreland.
“Those who suffered flood-related damage to their homes are already paying a hefty price, and the city being able to lighten the burden even a little is something we should do in the name of supporting those in need,” added Alderman Jackson.
The commissioner of neighborhood services would also be able to reimburse permit fees already paid by homeowners making repairs.
