Prison Nurse in Wisconsin Charged with Sexual Assault of Inmates

NEW LISBON, Wis. (AP) — A nurse at the New Lisbon prison is charged with having a sexual relationship with inmates and smuggling contraband to them.

A criminal complaint says 36-year-old April Stokes acknowledged a relationship with two prisoners, but said it wasn't sexual. The Elroy nurse is charged with two counts of sexual assault by a correctional staff and three counts of delivering contraband, including cigarettes, money and a cellphone.

The State Journal (http://bit.ly/1Rb7UUx ) says New Lisbon police got a call from the prison to investigate Stokes. The complaint says numerous staff members told police Stokes seemed to have an "inappropriately close" relationship with inmates. Police also interviewed several prisoners.

Online court documents do not list an attorney for Stokes.
