MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Well into the spooky season, many are preparing for Halloween, but another significant holiday follows closely: Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.
Celebrated from midnight on Oct. 31 through Nov. 2, the Mexican holiday allows families to welcome back the souls of loved ones. Latino Arts is hosting a Lunch and Learn Series on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 11:30 a.m. focusing on "Syncretism and Its Role in Day of the Dead Traditions."
The organization also opens an exhibit tomorrow featuring ofrendas, or offerings, from the Mexican Consulate, local schools and artists.
Mitchell Park Domes will host its celebration on Friday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event features a mariachi band, performances by "Catrinas" or Mexican skeletons, and various ofrendas. Tickets are $16 and sold out quickly last year.
