Preparing for cold weather

MILWAUKEE---Now that winter is officially on it's way, it's time to prepare your home for the season ahead. Service technicians suggest getting your furnace checked before winter.

\"You don't want to wait until the first cold day and it doesn't work,\" said Brent Zcerwinski with Capital Heating and Cooling.

He said during the winter it can be tough to get something fixed quickly because of the amount of service calls technicians get.

\"A lot of people get their furnace tuned-up right now to see if anything is close to breaking,\" said Zcerwinski.

He also suggest getting a humidifier.

\"Because the air is more humid it allows you to turn your temperature down a few more degrees. Every degree that your temperature is lower saves you on your energy bill,\" said Zcerwinski.

CBS 58's Lila Carrera reports.
