MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With bingo back at Potawatomi Casino and Hotel, officials are looking to add to the team to continue to provide a fun experience for guests.

"We're only running one session a day currently," explained Frank Fischer, director of bingo at the casino. "We used to have four sessions a day."

After shutting down for nearly three years due to the pandemic, bingo made its return to the casino this winter. Offered four days a week, Fischer says the hall averages about 500 players a session.

"Not just the guests back and into the swing of playing bingo," Fischer said. "Getting staffing to do it."

Right now, the casino employs two full-time bingo callers. The ideal number they hope to reach is six with applications now open.

"It's an audition," Fischer explained. "It's not about how you answer (questions). We listen for the voice. We actually put you on a mic and give you a script to read, to understand if we can hear you clearly over a microphone."

Fischer says the full-time gig comes with benefits including health insurance, PTO and competitive pay. He also says it's a chance to work in a fun, professional atmosphere.

"Bingo's the entertainment and social game," Fischer said. "Your job is basically to talk and inform guests of how we play bingo."

Scott Keshena has been calling games for nearly three decades.

"It's all about timing. Calling the game, numbers. What session are we playing? What game are we playing? Keshena said. "You have to be ready and you have to be prepared."

While Keshena has nearly three decades of experience, Kristal Manthe only has about three months.

The lack of experience up to this point isn't keeping her from enjoying the job.

"Bingo's in my blood," Manthe said. "When somebody wins a jackpot, it's almost like you totally changed their life. To see that change on their face and how excited they are, it's great."

With the casino set to move up to two sessions a day starting next week, Manthe and Keshena are going to be busy. They're hoping others will join the team.

"If you have a good personality, a good voice, you like to talk to people, you can do the computer and the machine at the same time, you're probably a good candidate," Manthe said. "This is definitely something that you come into and automatically know 'I could be here for a while.'"
