Port Washington elementary school enacts mask mandate after 3% of students and staff COVID positive

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In a letter sent home to families with children in the Port Washington-Saukville School District (PWSSD), Dunwiddie Elementary School will require masks for all students and staff as the number of positive COVID cases reach 3% of the school's population.

The district-wide policy is a mask recommendation, unless 3 percent of the population is positive for COVID 19.

Dunwiddie will move from "should" to "must" mask requirements after the spike in cases.

The letter sent to families says, in part, "We continue to monitor data regarding the spread of COVID 19 and use the metric approved by the Port Washington-Saukville Board of Education on Sept. 13 to determine if changes to the current safety proposal and mitigations are necessary."

Masking in other district buildings is still optional.
