MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Dan Popp is headed for phase two of his trial for a triple murder that shook a Milwaukee neighborhood last March.
During a final pre-trial hearing Wednesday morning, Popp changed his plea.
Authorities say Popp targeted neighbors in his apartment, shooting and killing three and tried to kill a fourth person.
Popp initially pled not guilty by reason of mental defect and underwent several psychological exams. On Wednesday, his attorney explained the reason to plead no contest.
The families of the victims say they want Popp charged with a hate crime. The next phase of Popp’s trial is set to begin November 6.
