Police: Mom Shot, Killed Daughter she Mistook for Intruder
(CBS NEW) ST. CLOUD, Fla. -- Police say an Osceola County homeowner mistook her own daughter for an intruder late Tuesday night and shot the young woman dead, CBS affiliate WKMG reports.
Police said the homeowner was asleep in her bed when she awoke and thought an intruder had entered the house and was quickly approaching her.
The station reported that the woman then fired one round at the person, who was later identified as her 27-year-old daughter, according to police.
Police said the daughter died at the hospital where she was taken. The homeowner was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
The identities of the daughter and the homeowner have not been released, pending next-of-kin notification.
According to WKMG, one of the occupants at the house where the shooting occurred was a member of law enforcement.
Police said that so far the homeowner's story is consistent with physical evidence, according to the station.
