MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local law enforcement are reminding you not to set off any fireworks this 4th of July.
In Milwaukee County, it's illegal to possess, discharge and sell fireworks. That even includes sparklers.
Authorities say they're dangerous and cause too many injuries to people and pets, and cause property damage. In fact, according to State Farm Insurance, nearly 20,000 reported fires each year are from fireworks.
MPD said if you're caught with them, you’ll have to pay up.
“Officers will write citations to individuals who possess and discharge fireworks in the city,” said Sgt. Sharonda Grant of the Milwaukee Police Department. “You can receive a citation up to $699 if you're an adult," she said.
To avoid a hefty fine, check your local laws and ordinances.
