Police Arrest Intoxicated Driver Swerving on I-94 in Racine County

At 3:29 PM on Friday, April 7  the Racine County Communications Center took several 911 call of a reckless driver on I-94 going south from Highway G. The callers stated that the reckless driver was in a silver car and that the driver appeared to be falling asleep while driving. The callers advised that the vehicle was swerving across all three lanes of traffic at times.

Later another caller said that the vehicle was stopped at the intersection of the Highway K south bound off ramp and Highway K and appeared to be asleep behind the wheel and that traffic was backing up behind it. The car then started moving again and got back on the interstate going south.

Racine County Sheriff deputies located the car on I-94 south as it was exiting the interstate at Highway KR. The vehicle was stopped after it went off the road way while trying to negotiate the off ramp and then got back on the roadway.

Upon initial contact with the woman operator, the deputies observed drug paraphernalia in the car consistent with the use of heroin.

The driver told deputies she was on her way to work on Highway 20 and must have missed her exit and was just tired. A K9 on scene alerted officers to the odor of drugs in the car.

The driver admitted that she uses drugs including heroin and that she had used heroin earlier in the day before driving. The woman was then put through and failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for OWI.

Deputies found several bindles of heroin (totaling 6.5 grams), a pill bottle containing marijuana and several pieces of drug paraphernalia in the car.

The woman is currently being held in the Racine County Jail on charges of OWI, Possession of Heroin with the intent to sell, Possession of THC and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

In another incident at 7:11 PM on Friday, April 7 the Racine County Communications Center took a 911 call of a person having a seizure in a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of a hotel at 910 S Sylvania in the Town of Yorkville.

The first squads on scene located the vehicle and found an adult man in the passenger seat of the car. The man was in obvious distress and was foaming from the mouth and showing signs of overdosing on opiates. Deputies were able to remove him from the car and administer Narcan. Once the Narcan was in the patient’s system he came to and started resisting deputies help and had to be restrained.

Once Yorkville/Union Grove Rescue arrived he was calmed down and turned over to them for medical attention.

The driver of the vehicle that had the patient in it was located and found to be impaired as well. She was arrested for OWI 1st, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
