Police: 11-year-old seriously injured in stolen vehicle crash, driver and passenger fled scene
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An 11-year-old child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Thursday, following a crash involving a stolen vehicle in the city of Milwaukee.
Police say the child was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed around 1:21 p.m. near 37th and Orchard when the driver lost control, striking an unoccupied parked vehicle.
Two additional passengers, a 14-year-old and 16-year-old, were also taken to an area hospital with non-fatal injuries.
Isaiah Doxtator, a nearby resident says he was in his yard with his dogs when he heard a loud boom. Doxtator says he stepped outside and saw the crash. He says two passengers were still in the car.
“He was super young, and he was sitting there crying because the guy was not responsive for the first five to six minutes," said Doxtator.
The driver and another passenger fled the scene on foot.
Authorities determined the car was recently stolen.
Jesus Paniagua's truck was hit by the stolen vehicle. He says this is something that could be prevented if parents look out for their children.
“It sucks, you know. We work hard for our stuff and for someone to just come and mess it up for a joyride," Paniagua. "A joyride that ended in a tragedy."
Milwaukee police say the passengers were arrested. They continue to seek the driver and unknown passenger that fled.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.
