PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An odd smell in the air in Pleasant Prairie prompted several 911 calls Monday, Feb. 9.
According to the Pleasant Prairie Police Department, the unknown odor is described as a chemical, burning electrical, or vinegar-like smell.
The department says the odor appears to be originating from a location south of Kenosha County.
Police say the reports have been ongoing for hours and cover a wide area, including central Illinois through Indiana.
"Initial reports of this smell started to happen as early as this weekend in Illinois," Assistant Chief David Wilkinson said. "So, we believe this started in Illinois or further south."
Kenosha County Emergency Management is working with the police department, along with officials in Illinois, to monitor the situation.
Officials say there have been no reports of illnesses or injuries related to the smell. You're urged to call 911 if you are experiencing symptoms, an emergency develops, or there is immediate danger.
