Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin launches initiative to display local art in health centers
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has unveiled the Forward Art Initiative, an art program aimed at purchasing artwork by Wisconsin artists to adorn its 22 health care centers statewide.
Tanya Atkinson, CEO of PPWI, said in a Wednesday, June 28 press release, “Art has the power to inspire, empower and heal. These values are embraced deeply in the care provided in our health centers and we are looking for our art to enhance patient experience.”
On Tuesday, Aug. 15, the initiative will close applications for its inaugural artwork installation at the Water Street Health Center in Milwaukee’s Historic Harbor District.
The Forward Art Initiative website states that the name "Forward" symbolizes embracing new opportunities and honors the role of artists in shaping a healthy democracy.
PPWI has enlisted the aid of Niki Johnson, a nationally renowned Milwaukee-based artist, to spearhead this initiative.
Those interested in participating can submit their work, including mural proposals, at no cost via the Forward Art Initiative website. The selection process, involving PPWI staff, will focus on artwork that reflects the PPWI community’s vibrant diversity and supports, uplifts and empowers visitors.
