MATC holds Juneteenth flag-raising ceremony at downtown campus
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- People in downtown Milwaukee gathered for a rally to keep the city's public museum open.
The new "Nature and Culture Museum of Wisconsin" is under construction in Deer District but it's one third the size of the public museum. It won't feature some exhibits that are local favorites, like Old Milwaukee, The European Village and dioramas.
The museum will also be transferred to a private organization and away from public ownership.
People at the rally say they're frustrated with the lack of public input.
"We have no say so or input on an establishment that the people have already put millions of dollars, public funds, into already," said Jamiroquan Kittle, a rally participant.
"You think that the museum is moving and it is not, it is being evolved and transformed based on MPM which is a private non-profit," said Cory Huston of Preserve MKE.
The new museum is currently under construction and is set to open in 2027.
