Pedestrian declared dead 10 days after hit-and-run near 37th and Lisbon

UPDATED: 1:44 p.m. on June 5, 2023:

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A pedestrian struck in a hit-and-run incident in Milwaukee has been pronounced dead, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.

The victim, 32-year-old Ishatua Smail, was reportedly hit near 37th and W. Lisbon Ave.

Smail was walking near the intersection before being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday, May 22. Bystanders reportedly called 911 for help at around 5:49 p.m. The unidentified vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene.

He was transported to Froedtert Hospital by the Milwaukee Fire Department, reaching the ER at around 6:23 p.m.

Smail's condition deteriorated, with brain death being pronounced on June 3 at 8:23 p.m.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured Monday night, May 22. 

Officials say around 5:49 p.m., an unidentified male was crossing W. Lisbon Avenue near 37th Street when a vehicle traveling westbound on Lisbon struck him and continued on without stopping. 

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. 

An investigation is ongoing.
