Paws and dance moves combine at 'Woofsconsin Spring Fling' freestyle competition

JEFFERSON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The 2023 World Canine Freestyle Organization Regional Competition, better known as the "Woofsconsin Spring Fling," is set to take place at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds-Activity Center in Jefferson on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16.

In partnership with Dancers with Woofs of Wisconsin, the event showcases handlers and their dogs performing choreographed musical programs, emphasizing teamwork, artistry, costuming, athleticism and style, according to a press release issued on Wednesday, April 12.

Participants from Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin will compete for titles, ribbons and trophies using the Olympic scoring system for artistic and technical merit.

The competition features first-time participants as well as seasoned Perfect Dance Partners, Handi-Dandi Routines and two junior competitors who are sisters. The competition is free for spectators, but only competitor dogs are allowed on-site.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, with lunch breaks from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on both days.
