Parents, city officials discuss safety measures after crossing guard hit by car outside Pulaski HS
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Multiple city officials gathered with parents at Pulaski High School Thursday morning to discuss the need for improved safety on the school's campus.
The meeting comes just over a week after a crossing guard was severely injured after being hit by a car in front of the school.
According to Alderman Scott Spiker, that crossing guard, a 70-year-old woman, is still hospitalized and in the process of recovering.
The meeting was meant to function as just a preliminary check with the parents to see what safety solutions could work best, but Spiker is confident something will get done soon.
"This is a really important opportunity for the community and the city to come together, talk about shared problems and discuss shared solutions," Ald. Spiker said. "So, this is just the beginning of a much needed and ongoing conversation and I'm happy to be a part of it."
Increased police enforcement, changes in the roadway structure, and even an added stoplight were all discussed as potential solutions.
As for next steps, multiple site assessments will be conducted on the school's campus to determine what comes next.
