GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) --  Fans filled the parking lots at Lambeau Field Thursday, ready to enjoy the return of football.

The Packers faced the Houston Texans in the season's first preseason game, and the Packers Tailgate Band kept the energy high in the parking lot outside Lambeau Field.

"It's always nice to be back with the fans," said a Packers Tailgate Band member. "There's a lot of familiar faces. They always enjoy having the band come out and add to the party atmosphere."

Thursday's preseason opener was a celebration for many fans.

"It's a good way to start the season," Packers fan Ebony Ward said. "To actually be at the game, instead of watching it on TV. It's important to us."

Two devoted fans and high school sweethearts are getting married in two weeks. They spent Thursday celebrating their love for each other and their favorite team. "We love the Packers, oh, we love them," said fan Jo Devaud.

And 15-month-old Jordy experienced his first tailgate party. His parents love and respect Jordy Nelson so much they named him after the former Packer. "I just thought he was such a great guy, so we're so excited to have Jordy named after Jordy," Packers fan Liz Butryn said.

There were lots of fans sporting Packers gear, and some made their love for the team permanent. "I bleed green and yellow as you can see," one fan said while showing off his tattoo.

The preseason opener is a new chapter for the Packers. And for the fans, it's a chance to see their favorite players hit the field, and a good excuse to get together with friends.

"The camaraderie between friends growing up, the environment that Lambeau has, it's second to none, one fan said. "It's great."

Many fans said the preseason opener was a great way to watch a new coach in action and new players on the field.
