MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Over 60% of Milwaukee County kids face hunger and on Saturday, volunteers came together at Nicolet High School to make sure they got a meal.
Generosity Feeds organized volunteers to hand out 12,000 meals for kids and families in need.
The meal packs will be distributed in Milwaukee and surrounding areas through community organizations.
One young volunteer explained houw helping to fight hunger opens up more opportunities for people in need.
"They can't get their basic need met which is physiological needs like hunger, thirst, shelter, so they aren't able to reach these higher needs or they're not able to go after education, self-actualization, self-improvement, those sorts of things," said Volunteer Matt Korfhage.
Over 300 people participated in the event.
