Oriental Theatre to remain closed through summer as restoration work continues

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Oriental Theatre will remain closed this summer.

Citing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the generosity of community donors, Milwaukee Film announced Tuesday, June 23, that they will be doing "extensive work" to upgrade the main and east theaters over the next few months.

The restoration plans include:

  • Replacing seats and carpeting in the east house and on the ground floor of the main house
  • Restoring plaster on the ceiling and walls
  • Improving sightlines and sound
  • Preparing for the future installation of the theater pipe organ

Restoration projects are expected to be completed this fall.
