1 year after shooting claimed the lives of two 15-year-olds, sister of one victim shares message about Milwaukee gun violence
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One year after a deadly shooting claimed the lives of two 15-year-old boys, a grieving sister and family are still looking for justice to be served as they say their son's shooter has not been arrested.
On May 18, 2024, 15-year-old Monroe Weso was killed alongside his best friend, 15-year-old Alejandro Sancez. The double murder happened near 14th and Hasley.
To come together to honor Weso and his friend, family members of Weso reunited at the Menominee Reservation, where Weso is buried.
“We all gathered together, we had a fire going for him, we prayed, good spirits,” said Kim Decorah, Weso’s sister. “We’re still grieving and mourning, it still hurts a lot.”
In the latest update from the Milwaukee Police Department, a 13-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested last year. Police are still seeking the third individual. Online court records show a 16-year-old connected to this case faces three felony charges.
As this family marks one year of heartbreak, Decorah wants to see the violence in this city stop.
“I don’t think we’ll ever stop mourning until justice is served,” Decorah said. “Put the guns down."
Weso was a student at West Allis Central. You can find more from our previous coverage on this deadly shooting here.
