One person rescued in fire near 10th and Capitol
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One person was rescued in a fire today in Milwaukee.
The fire started around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, on Oct. 13, near 10th and Capitol on the city's north side.
We talked to the Battalion Chief on scene.
He says when crews first got here, there was a resident sitting on a porch overhang.
They managed to escape the fire through an upstairs window.
Firefighters used a ladder to bring that person down.
Fire officials say the fire started in the kitchen, and the resident was asleep when it started.
"I guess it speaks volumes for the importance of having working smoking detectors in their house," said Battalion Chief Nicholas Trost.
The person rescued was taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
