Officials: Racine County man arrested for 8th OWI offense with open container of alcohol in vehicle

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Officials say a 55-year-old Racine County resident was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 9 and is currently being held on charges including an 8th OWI offense.

A Racine County Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle reported for speeding and almost causing an accident around 8:22 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The deputy observed the vehicle as it was approaching the northbound on-ramp to I-94 at State Highway 20. 

While speaking with the driver, deputies observed multiple indicators of impairment. 

The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, 8th offense.

Authorities say an open container of alcohol was located in the vehicle. 

Officials say at the time of the incident the man's driving status was suspended due to his previous OWI convictions. 

Additionally, deputies discovered the man is currently on parole for a previous felony conviction. 

He was issued multiple citations and taken to the Racine County Jail on the following charges:

  • Operating while intoxicated -- 8th offense
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Parole hold
