Off-duty Grafton police officer cited for OWI following a crash

GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Grafton police officer Tylor Taubenheim has been placed on paid administrative leave after being cited for an OWI following a crash near Balsam Court and Walnut Court in Grafton Sept. 19.

According to the Grafton Police Department, officers responded to a single vehicle accident in the area where Taubenheim was identified. He was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

Officials say Taubenheim has been employed with the department for a little over a year. 

Taubenheim was issued a citation for OWI 1st and Inattentive Driving. The results of the blood draw have yet to be received. Per department policies, Taubenheim was placed on paid administrative leave.

Grafton police chief Jeff A. Caponera said he will remain on paid administrative leave depending the results of the internal affairs investigation.

"Officers have a due process and we as an organization must be sensitive to that," Caponera said. 

Caponera said since the investigation is ongoing and is a "personal matter", the department will not release any further details.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is handling the crash investiigation and subsequent OWI investigation. Washington County DA's office has been assigned as a special prosecutor to remove any potential conflict of interest.
