Oak Creek-Franklin School District's COVID-19 safety protocols under fire

OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Oak Creek-Franklin School District is defending its COVID-19 safety protocols Tuesday night, Oct. 5, after the health department said students are not learning in the "safest environment."

A public letter signed by the county's health officer and the district's medical advisor says Covid cases in Oak Creek have increased dramatically over the last month.

Kids accounted for 34% of all cases in Oak Creek in September.

The health department is now calling on the district to require masks and quarantining of close contacts.

In response, the school district's superintendent said the number of new cases has declined over the last week, adding that the district respects the decisions made by parents to do what's best for their kids.
